Treasury Resumes Sales of State and Local Government Series Securities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 17, 2013

The Treasury Department is resuming the sale of State and Local Government Series (SLGS) nonmarketable Treasury securities, effective Thursday, October 17, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

The Treasury Department suspended sales of SLGS on May 17, 2013. The suspension was necessary to assist Treasury's management of the debt subject to limit.

Today, President Obama signed H.R 2775, Continuing Appropriations Act, 2014, which suspends the debt limit through February 7, 2014, allowing the Bureau of the Public Debt to accept subscriptions for new issues of SLGS securities.

The SLGS program began in 1972 to assist state and local government entities in complying with IRS arbitrage regulations. The securities are not available to the general public.
